About Asbestos
Asbestos was once seen as “the miracle mineral” and was widely exploited for its properties of chemical stability, high tensile strength, low thermal conductivity, sound attenuating capabilities etc.
Asbestos is also widely distributed and has been commercially mined in over 40 countries. This resulted in the extensive use of asbestos in buildings, associated engineering services and in all types of products.
Unfortunately, one of asbestos’ most useful properties, that of splitting into fine fibres, makes its release into the atmosphere very damaging to health. We are therefore left with managing the resulting risks associated with asbestos - either by removing the material under strictly controlled conditions or managing asbestos in-situ to prevent risking peoples’ health.
